We are actively seeking talented filmmakers with stories that resonate.
Social Impact Themes:
In addition to films with strong characters, diverse voices, and a clear message, the Newgate Pictures Film Fund is particularly interested in stories that explore the following social impact themes:
- Environment: Films that raise awareness about environmental issues, such as climate change, deforestation, pollution, and the importance of sustainable practices.
- Poverty: Stories that shed light on the realities of poverty around the world, its causes and consequences, and the power of individuals and communities to overcome it.
- Climate Change: Films that explore the impact of climate change on different communities and ecosystems, inspire action towards mitigation and adaptation strategies, and showcase innovative solutions.
- War-Torn Countries: Stories that give voice to the experiences of people living in war-torn countries, explore the human cost of conflict, and promote peacebuilding and reconciliation efforts.
We encourage films that:
- Offer a unique perspective: Go beyond simply showcasing the problem and explore potential solutions or ways to create positive change.
- Highlight underrepresented voices: Give a platform to stories from marginalized communities directly affected by these issues.
- Inspire action: Evoke empathy and encourage audiences to get involved in making a difference.
- Utilize creative storytelling: Employ innovative storytelling techniques to engage viewers and leave a lasting impact.
Examples of Potential Films:
- A documentary showcasing the innovative work of a community in a developing country transitioning to sustainable energy sources.
- A narrative film following a young activist fighting for environmental justice in their hometown.
- A docudrama exploring the struggles of a family living in poverty and their journey towards self-sufficiency.
- An animated feature film that uses allegory to tell a powerful story about the urgency of addressing climate change.
- A coming-of-age story set in a war-torn country, emphasizing the resilience of the human spirit and the power of hope.
Please note: This is not an exhaustive list, and we welcome creative approaches to social impact filmmaking.
